Howard Stern and the Libertarian Party

In 1994, radio shock-jock Howard Stern generated huge publicity for the Libertarian Party when he briefly ran for New York governor as a Libertarian. Once he found out that he would be required to fully disclose his finances, he dropped out of the race.

Stern was not the first Libertarian candidate for governor of New York to cause controversy. 1974 candidate Jerome Tuccille made waves by having a woman clad only in a body suit ride a horse named 'Taxpayer' through Central Park.
