Libertarian Gets 46% in State Senate Race

In 1992, Libertarian Tamara Clark received 46% of the vote in a highly publicized race for state senate in Nevada. Clark became the first Libertarian endorsed for a state office by the Chamber of Commerce, and the first Libertarian to receive the endorsement of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, circulation 160,000, the largest newspaper in the state.

Clark and several Republican candidates levied charges of fraud after the election. Early returns showed Clark ahead 56%-44%, but after the state election computers "had to be shut down" for an hour, the final vote turned out to be the reverse, with Clark losing.
