Man Kills Slasher

Elgin, Illinois, resident George Kelly found a man with a butcher knife waiting in his shower. The intruder, convicted burglar and child molester Joe Lewis, lunged at Kelly, slashing him with the knife.

Kelly managed to retrieve his 9mm handgun and shoot Lewis in the chest. Lewis appeared unaffected, and Kelly ran out his back door, hoping to attract Lewis out of the house and away from his pregnant wife and their seven-year-old daughter.

Lewis remained in the house, threatening Kelly's wife. Kelly ran back in, tackled Lewis, then gathered his family upstairs. Police found the intruder barricaded in the family's nursery. Lewis later died at a hospital, and Kelly's slash wound required sixteen stiches to close.
