David Koch

David Koch, one of the heirs to the Koch Industries family fortune, won the 1980 Libertarian Party nomination for Vice President. Koch's financial contributions to the campaign helped the Libertarian Party in its impressive third-party showing of nearly one million votes that year.

Koch, born in 1940, was an all-American basketball center at MIT. At the time of the 1980 election, he was corporate president of Koch Industries Inc., which had $8 billion in sales in 1979.

David Koch's brother Charles also became active in the libertarian movement, funding several libertarian organizations including the Cato Institute.
