2004 Libertarian Campaigns
Summary
I didn't follow the campaigns very closely, but here are
the bare bones:
The Presidential ticket of
Michael Badnarik
was on the ballot in 48 states, and received 397,265 votes, or 0.32%.
This was a numerical increase from the 2000
race, but slightly less in percentage terms. The Libertarian Party kept
its share better than other third parties, however; Ralph Nader, in
particular, was the only one to beat Badnarik, and his support plummeted
to .38%.
Libertarian Ben Brandon became the first Libertarian ever elected
to partisan office in Georgia when he won a run-off for Dade County
Executive. In the general election, the Republican received 40% of the vote,
Brandon 33%, and the Democrat 27%; in the run-off, Brandon defeated the
Republican 66% to 34%.
