Dick Randolph was the first Libertarian to win elected office. He was elected in 1978 to the Alaska House of Representatives.
Randolph ran for governor of Alaska as a Libertarian in 1980 and polled 15%. He switched to the Republican Party, ran again in 1982 and polled less.
