The Cato InstituteThe Cato Institute is a Washington, D.C.-based libertarian think tank. Cato is perhaps the most influential libertarian organization in politics today. Cato's policy recommendations became especially well-heard after Republicans gained control of Congress in the mid-1990s. Cato traces its origins to millionaire Charles Koch, of Koch Industries, then the wealthiest privately-held company in the United States.
